Hey guys! I welcome you all to this third vlog of IMPROVING YOUR SELF.
Today, we're going to talk about your habits. You see, the routine you fall into whenever you go to school or college, the kinds of stuff that you eat, the way you talk, and the way you observe the world and take action when required. All this counts as your habits.
● THE LOGIC BEHIND YOUR HABIT.
Your habit is formed when you automatically repeat certain actions with time. Your repetitive action will subcortically get saved in your brain and become your habit. Your repeated actions will also become your behaviour. So, indirectly, your habit affects your behaviour.
Let's see this with an example: A person with a busy schedule doesn't have time to cook, so he ends up eating junk. Eating junk again and again will lead him to become his habit, and soon, you will see that he likes to eat junk rather than having a healthy option. Now, eating junk will show in his behaviour.
So you see now how your habit can affect your behaviour even having a healthy option he is going to choose to have junk due to its habit.
● Your habits determine your behaviour and your behaviour is determined by your surroundings.
Now let's come to the logical part;
● HOW ACTUALLY HABIT FORMED;
So basically there are three key component of forming a habit;
1. CUE
2. ROUTINE(ACTION)
3. REWARD(OUTCOME)
CUE; It is a signal that initiate your habit. It include your emotion, your action your location or time of a day. Sometimes your cue get initiated due to accident forming it as a habit.
Example: A person who was at a dinner party ate cake as a desert after a meal and found it satisfying. Now for the next day after the dinner he out of sudden started craving for the cake.( to be continued).
ROUTINE(Action); It is just a repetition of certain behaviour or action.
Example: He after craving, ate the cake again and again for the following days.
( He is repeating his behaviour).
REWARD( Outcome); it is a relaxed or positive feeling that create the habit.
Example: After eating the cake he feel satisfied or full.
Now you see, with repetition habit shift from conscious effort (sudden signal) to automatic response which get saved into your subconscious mind forming it as a habit.
Remember, The cue for for your habit can be sudden(accident) or you feel the need for the cue like felling or craving for something, like when you feel you need to loose weight , you start exercising , repeating your action can lead you to exercise daily forming a habit;[ there was need for it right]
I hope till now you have understood the logic behind the logic formation.
● KNOW YOUR HABIT AND ITS CAUSE;
As i said earlier that your habit determine your behaviour and your behaviour is determined by your surroundings. So, technically your surrounding is affecting your habit.
you all have some habit that are good and bad. Your routine is a part of your habit too. you all are following some habit. Your just need to know the cause of your habit. By cause i mean CUE of your habit. If you know your cue half of the game is finished there and the next step is " IMPACT ASSESMENT" means analysing the impact of your habit on your life.( whatever it is helping you to grow or holding you back). After analysing your habit and then you can start cahnging it according to your need.
● TO AQUIRE A HABIT:
A habit can never become the part of your life until you fell there is a need of developing it.
Second you should know how it gonna affect you in a good way or in a bad way.
Third is to practice that habit again and again so that it get saved in your subconscious mind.
TIP; Before forming the habit you should understand that. the habit you gonna choose (like reading or exercising) is a part of you. You should maintain a consistency, a strong and focus. you need to practice your habit again and again until it become the part of your life. You should be determined of your habit and its consequences.
● TO GET RID OF YOUR HABIT;
Now come to the part of getting rid of your bad habit. Actually the concept of getting a habit is not a good or bad. It is just that you fell uneasy with your habit or you have got now in a comfortable zone with your habit that it is now affecting you.
So, lets start the process;
1. As you know you have to find the cue of your habit.
2. You should know the fact that you can't get rid of your habit all of a sudden, however u can always replace it.[Your habit is replaceable].
3. Repetition; Repeating your habit gain and again with a replaceable thing or task.(Repetition is the basic requirement of forming a habit)
Let's see this with an example;
A person who is having a habit of procrastination. How he will get rid of the procrastination.
Step 1; He need to know the cause of it(or cue). the cause can be lack of motivation, negative emotion, Distraction, weak mindset, not clear goals etc.
Step2; He need to find the replacement like whenever he feel demotivated he should do some task to encourage himself or if he get distracted by phone the he should study some noble or book instead of scrolling phone.
[That's how you can replace your habit]
Step3; Repeating the same action again and again. once you complete the process of replacement, you can broke the chain of your bad habits and can get a good control on your own self.
The tsk is easy you just need to know the correct way
