MS DHONI: Consistency is what transforms average into excellence.
Hey guys, I welcome you all to this fourth vlog about improving yourself. Today, our topic will be consistency. You see, the time you wake up, the route you take when you go to work, the way you speak or act, eating at the same time, and using the same study method are nothing but your responses to consistent action taken unintentionally.
Your unintentional action at a time resulted in a stable response that is your HABIT.
In the last vlog we have talked about we talked about the habit, how can you formed a habit? The answer to that is consistency.
SO WHAT IS CONSISTENCY?
Consistency simply refers to the quality of maintaining a stable, uniform and reliable pattern over time in your thoughts, actions behaviour or results. Consistency is not just about following the same thing again and again it is also about building a stable form in your life. Your habit is the result of consistency.
For example: How does a person acquire a habit of smoke?
He had somewhere started smoking from zero, its consistent action led him to form smoking it as a habit. From here we can conclude that you are showing consistency in types of things, determine your habit, and the result of habit can be positive or negative.
The point to note here is even bad habit can formed due to consistency. Now we can see the power of consistency.
Consistency can be a powerful tool if you use it wisely, it can help you to achieve what you want. It can make you a master of a certain skill. It can make you disciplined. If you want to master a certain skill make sure to do it consistently.
Now you all have understood the result of consistency which is habit formation. Now let's see the reason why you are not consistent.
1. Lack of clear goals; If you don't have well defined goals. It's hard to stay consistent. for example if someone wants to gets fit but dosen't have a specific plan( like exercising 4 times a week or loosing 5 kg in 3 months) they are more likely to loose motivation. Clear goals gives direction and purpose.
2. Lack of motivation or discipline; Motivation is temporary and can fluctuate based on mood, energy or external factors . Discipline is however the ability to stay committed even when motivation is low. For instance a student might feel excited to study at first but loose interest overtime if they relay on motivation instead of making it a habit.
3. External distraction; Life is full of distractions, weather it's a social media, unexpected responsiblities or interruption from others. If someone is trying to develop a habit, but they keep getting side tracked by notification or social companies, their consistency suffers.
4. Burnout or overload; Taking on too much at once can lead to exhaustion, If someone tries to do too many task without break they feel mentally or physically drained, making it hard to maintain consistency. For example an employee who works 12 hours days might struggle to stay consistent with personal goals like reading or exercising.
5. Inefficient system or planning; Without a structured approach, consistency becomes difficult. If a person wants to wake up early but doesn't set an alarm, sleeps late or doesn't have a morning routine they are less likely to succeed. Proper planning helps build reliable habits.
So if you know the problem you can easily find the solution to the problem.
COMPOUNDING WITH CONSISTENCY;
Now let me give you the weapon for consistency. How you can command consistency?
Consistency is a logical technique i.e. repeating your action; Let's say you are learning the skill of playing guitar. How can you master the skill the answer is consistency.
For example; A boy named Rahul wants to learn a guitar so that he can join some famous band and can get famous but his parents doesn't support him , also he get involved in school, classes, tuition and assignments, After that he had only left with one hour for practice, but he is very consistent with his practice as he practice everyday.
Also, a boy named Arjun is also interested in playing guitar and holds a same dream. But he didn't much care about the school and other thing and he practice 5 hour every day.
Now who do you think will, master the skill better? Isn't it obvious?
It's Arjun who gonna master the skill. The point here is when you invest more time in your habit( Repeated action) you have a high rate of getting better in that habit than others. This is called COMPOUNDING.
HOW CAN COMPOUNDING CAN HELP YOU?
It is very simple, compounding in another words means investing, the more you invest the more you get.
The principle of compounding in consistency is a game-changer when it comes to learning new skills. Here’s how it works:
Daily Practice Builds Mastery: Whether you're learning to play the guitar, write code, or speak a new language, consistent practice—even just 20 minutes a day—ensures steady progress. Each session builds on the last, reinforcing what you've learned. But when you invest more, the more you get better.
Tiny Improvements Add Up: Imagine improving by just 1% each day with compounding. While that might not seem like much, over time, these small improvements multiply, leading to exponential growth in your ability and confidence.
Retention Through Repetition: Regular practice helps move new information or skills from short-term to long-term memory. This reinforces your understanding and ensures that what you learn sticks.
Overcoming Plateaus: At times, learning can feel stagnant. Consistency helps you push through plateaus, as every small effort contributes to eventual breakthroughs.
Compound Knowledge: As you consistently learn, you start connecting new ideas to what you already know. This creates a deeper and more integrated understanding of the skill.
Certainly! Consistency can be understood through various perspectives and terms:
Reliability: It means showing up and performing actions regularly without fail.
Habitual: It’s about turning actions into habits that become second nature over time.
Persistence: It reflects a continuous and steady effort toward a goal, even in the face of challenges.
Repetition: It involves doing the same thing repeatedly to reinforce learning or progress.
Routine: It's the establishment of regular practices that help maintain discipline and focus.
Stability: Consistency provides a sense of steadiness and reliability in actions or outcomes.
Now you all have got the powerful tool of consistency with compounding., hope you will use it carefully and consciously .Till then see in the next blog.
